Who will be playing April 26 in New York City at the Peace and Planet Rally, March, and Festival?
Unquestionably, we are going to rock this movement!
But first . . . the bad news.
The Evil Sun (1972) Joe Scarry, guitar; Jack Feeney, vocals; Ed "Too Tall" Wise, bass; Jeff Geider, percussion |
The members of the Evil Sun will not be putting the band back together.
We will not be dusting off our special versions of favorites like "Proud Mary," "(You've got to change your) Evil Ways" and "Here Comes the Sun."
I will not be playing the guitar solo to Jimi Hendrix's "Fire" with my teeth.
We will not be playing venues like Chatham (NJ) Middle School auditorium . . . the Fishawack Festival (from the back of a flatbed truck) . . . . poolside at the Fish & Game Swim Club midsummer gala . . . .
We will never again "cause" a blackout with our rendition of "Sympathy for the Devil" during the High School Talent Show.
(Some things are just too much to hope for.)
OK: now that we've got that out of the way . . . .
Here's the good news: an amazing number of the world's greatest artists are long-time devoted activists for nuclear disarmament and against nuclear power!
You can read about Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) on Wikipedia . . . but it would probably be more fun to just watch a few videos . . . .
How about "Taking It To the Streets"? - Madison Square Garden, 1979 - Doobie Brothers, Carly Simon, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, John Hall, Bonnie Raitt, Graham Nash .... who have I left out?
The backstage scenes before the concert are to-die-for
Amazing how it all comes back to you . . . .
Okay . . . maybe the Evil Sun IS going to get back together . . . .

I can't help wondering at the coincidence of the Dead's big July4th concert series, and the global Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) review conference that will be taking place in New York City in April/May at the UN.

For my money, there could be no better challenge to faith communities than the beautiful voice of Sarah Jarosz calling on them to "Ring them bells so the world will know . . ."
