I was in Los Angeles this past week (see photo above). It was eerie to be spending time with the people who represent the future for me -- my children and my new granddaughter -- at the same time that Donald Trump was discovering a sad old truth: if a US president wants to be popular, all he has to do is start a war.
During my visit, my son asked me what I will be working on in the weeks ahead. I told him about the global effort to institute a ban on nuclear weapons -- #nuclearban.
Look: there's no question that the United States and countries like it have the power of violence on their side . . .

But the whole world is waking up . . . and the whole world has power to bring to bear on the problem of nuclear weapons that, I believe, is about to overwhelm the effort by the nuclear weapons powers to dig their heels in and hold on to their nuclear weapons forever.
