New This Week (April 24, 2017)

I continue to be astounded about how widespread the support is for the UN negotiations on a treaty to ban nuclear weapons worldwide.

As I read about country after country after country that supports the ban, it reminds me of an experience from my childhood - visiting the pavilions of country after country after country at Expo 67 in Montreal.

A big focus of Expo 67 was "Man and his World." It was a moment when people were very much aware of how the human species had come to dominate the planet -- and each other -- and there were the beginnings of a call for balance.

This summer will be the 50th anniversary of Expo. I'm looking forward to going back and thinking about how the seeds of the work we are doing today on issues like climate, nuclear weapons, development, and others were planted way back then.
