I can remember when I first typed the words: permanent resistance.
I took to heart the words of friends here in Chicago, who taught me to recognize that, though it may also be annoying, the fundamental characteristic of dissent is that it is valuable.
Rahm Emanuel helped.
So did Barack Obama.
It requires us to take a new look at everything we do.
I think the hardest thing is for people to reject the idea that someone else -- like the President -- is going to make all the problems go away at one fell swoop.
But is the need to resist really that hard to see? Ask any child . . . .
